Brexit Veto In The Name of Constitutionalism?
Daniel Kawczynski, a Conservative MP has defended a bid for Poland to veto the delay of Brexit. The Tory MP has been lobbying Polish government to reject the request to prolong Brexit any further as a matter of it being “our job to do anything that is legal and constitutional to ensure that we leave the European Union on 31 October.”
On Sunday, Daniel tweeted: “I am doing all I can to convince Polish government to veto extension of Article 50. Others working on Czechs and Hungarians. One of these will veto I predict.”
Whilst Daniel defended his move, David Lammy, Labour MP, has previously criticised his decisions of a ‘veto coup’ as “extraordinarily reckless”.
On Saturday, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson asked for a three month delay for the Brexit negotiations on his deal. However, under Article 50, all 27 remaining EU states need to grant approval for any further delay of Brexit.
